Duong Lam Village is home to the two Vietnam’s kings who are King Phung Hung (761-802) and King Ngo Quyen (896-944), giving the village its prestige. Both men led the people against the invasion of northern country (China nowadays) and after achieving independence for the nation, they crowned kings. After their deaths, the local people built temples to commemorate them.
The ancient village has a more than 1,200 year history in which there a lot of houses up to 400 year-old lasting. The most special thing in the village is that materials for building most houses are mud and laterite which are very abundant in the region. Laterite is used to make walls and gates of houses and temples. Mud is taken from ponds in the village. Apart from its historical and tourism values, Duong Lam ancient village is an important place for scientists to study because the village is also considered the last stronghold of wet rice culture in Northern Vietnam.
